Annual Initiatives

S.E.L.F.I.E. stands for Success, Education, Leadership, Finance, Innovation, and Empowerment. This annual event is designed to inspire and equip young women and men, ages 16-25, with essential skills to thrive academically, professionally, and personally.

The conference focuses on key areas including:

• Financial Literacy – Budgeting, credit education, and wealth-building strategies.

• Education – College preparation, FAFSA assistance, and scholarship resources.

• Leadership – Public speaking, networking, and developing leadership qualities.

• Career Preparation – Resume writing, mock interviews, and professional etiquette.

• Innovation – STEM exposure and entrepreneurship opportunities.

• Empowerment – Building confidence and fostering self-advocacy skills.

Speakers and facilitators include local business leaders, investment bankers, educators, and career service advisors from institutions such as Valdosta State University and Wiregrass Technical College. This initiative directly supports NCNW’s core mission of economic empowerment and education, fostering the next generation of leaders in our community.​​​​​​​​​​​​

This event is a fun filled day that includes food giveaways, resources for health and other non profit organizations, voter registration and entertainment for the families of our community.

The Bethune Leadership Recognition Banquet is an annual event dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women and young leaders in our community. Honorees are recognized for their excellence in leadership, service, and commitment to uplifting others, embodying the values of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune.

This event highlights individuals in high school, college, and the broader community who are making a difference through advocacy, service, and leadership. Proceeds from the banquet directly support NCNW’s initiatives, including scholarships, community outreach, and leadership development programs.

By recognizing and investing in women leaders, the Bethune Leadership Recognition Banquet helps build stronger communities and ensures that the spirit of service continues to thrive for future generations.

At the Valdosta-Lowndes Metropolitan Section of NCNW, we believe that lasting change begins with strong partnerships. By uniting with schools, businesses, and community organizations, we address critical local needs, provide essential resources, and create opportunities that uplift families and transform lives across Valdosta and Lowndes County.

Our collaborative efforts include:

• Providing Winter Essentials – Partnering with local schools to supply coats, hats, and gloves to homeless students, ensuring they are equipped for colder months.

• Health and Wellness Initiatives – Promoting physical and mental well-being through community fitness programs and access to health resources.

• Disaster Relief and Recovery – Mobilizing to support families affected by natural disasters, offering immediate aid and essential supplies.

These partnerships reflect the heart of NCNW’s mission — to empower women of African descent, strengthen families, and build communities grounded in resilience, health, and economic equity. Together, we are expanding access to wellness programs, supporting underserved youth, and advocating for a brighter, more equitable future for all.
