Section History

The Valdosta-Lowndes Metropolitan Section of NCNW was chartered by Ms. Sharah Denton on August 3, 2011. Ms. Denton’s personal goal has always been to empower women and provide a platform showing one another sisterly love, empowerment, support, and helping each other reach his/her goals and dreams. Her vision has also always been to continue to bring women together in a positive way and instill the values and mission of leading and developing to benefit the women in our community.

The Valdosta-Lowndes Metropolitan Section has been involved in many community projects to achieve the vision of NCNW. (i.e., The Community-Wide Family Reunion was established to allow families to receive free resources, and the Bethune Leadership Recognition Program is committed to recognizing outstanding leaders in our community). NCNW has also partnered with many other organizations to create The Back-to-School Health Fair Extravaganza, which focuses on providing the community with school supplies, health treatments, and health education. The S.E.L.F.I.E. Conference is an empowerment session for young women; it provides them with the necessary tools they need for college. NCNW has been involved with numerous community projects such as feeding the homeless, tutoring programs, and keeping the city beautiful with road clean-ups.

The Valdosta-Lowndes Metropolitan Section of NCNW has been committed to following the vision of the late Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune by improving opportunities for African American families.
